New CD collection to be released!

'Here's One You Didn't Know About', is a 25-track CD of mostly previously unissued recordings are drawn from his sessions for Modern Records between 1954 and 1962. Be Careful Baby is a rare thing a B.B. King song that has never been released before in any version, while two tracks appeared on Ace's 2014 RPM compilation Speak Easy.

The version of Catfish Blues is from a completely different session to the familiar issued version and from B.B.'s commentary appears to be the version he played on the road. There are many comments from B.B. and the band which provide an insight into the recording process and B.B.'s relaxed and informal manner in the studio.

The CD ends with a previous unheard interview, recorded backstage at the Fillmore Ballroom in San Francisco with radio station KSAY at the 10/10 spot on your dial. All tracks are from the original master tapes.

The CD is releaserd on November 27, 2015, but you can pre-order it now from Amazon.

Remembering B.B. King - Funeral Service
If you missed BB's funeral service, you can watch it now via the Mississippi Public Broadcasting YouTube channel.

BB's Funeral in Indianola

Hundreds of people filled a church in the Mississippi Delta today for the funeral of BB.

About 500 people filled the sanctuary of Bell Grove Missionary Baptist Church, a red brick structure that sits in a field off of B.B. King Road in Indianola. More than 200 people who couldn't get into the sanctuary watched a live broadcast of the funeral in the church's fellowship hall, many waving hand-held fans with a black-and-white photo of a smiling King hugging Lucille.

At the beginning of the service, family members filed past BB's open casket, which had an image of Lucille embroidered on the padded white cloth inside the lid. Later, the casket was closed and covered with a large arrangement of red roses.

The Rev. Herron Wilson, who delivered the eulogy, said BB proved that people can triumph over difficult circumstances.

"Hands that once picked cotton would someday pick guitar strings on a national and international stage. Amazing," Wilson said.

Country singer Marty Stuart said B created a musical legacy for the home state they share.

"As a fellow Mississippian, I'm so proud to stand in his shadow as I walk across the world," Stuart said.

On the way into the church, Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant recalled spending time with BB in the bluesman's tour bus before a concert last year in Indianola. Bryant said King was proud of being from Mississippi.

Noting the thousands of people who came to Indianola for the public viewing Friday and funeral Saturday, Bryant said: "He would have loved to know that one more time he's helping the Mississippi Delta."

Tony Coleman, King's drummer for 37 years, said BB King never referred to himself as King of the Blues, an honorary title others used.

"He felt like the blues was the king, and it was his responsibility to keep it king," Coleman said as he entered the church.

A children's choir based at the B.B. King Museum clapped as they sang gospel songs, including one with the chorus: "Let's all get together, bring peace to the world."

President Barack Obama sent a letter to be read aloud by Democratic U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, a friend of BB.

"The blues has lost its king and American has lost a legend," Obama said. "No one worked harder than B.B. No one did more to spread the gospel of the blues. He gets stuck in your head, he gets you moving, he gets you doing the things you probably shouldn't do — but will always be glad you did.

"B.B. may be gone but that thrill will be with us forever. And there's going to be one killer blues session in heaven tonight," Obama said.

There was even a tribute message recorded by Stevie Wonder in memory of BB King.

More than 4,000 people viewed his open casket Friday at the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center in Indianola.

One of his sons, Willie King of Chicago, said his father taught him to respond with love when others are angry.

"For a man coming out of the cotton field unlearned and you take his music and draw four corners of the world together — that is amazing," Willie King said Friday at the museum, where his father will be buried.

BB'S public viewing Friday was almost like a state funeral, with Mississippi Highway Patrol officers in dress uniform standing at each end of the casket. Two of his black electric guitars stood among sprays of flowers.

Blues guitarist Buddy Guy, 78, said he always intended to tour the B.B. King Museum while its namesake, his longtime friend, was still living.

"His left hand was a special effect," Guy said, describing King's talent for bending strings to make the guitar sing.

"These young people playing, you punch a button and you get a vibration," Guy said. "He didn't need that. He invented that."

BB King Memphis Tribute

(Memorial programme from the event)

Thousands lined the streets of Memphis today to pay tribute to BB, which included a memorial concert at Handy Park and procession down Beale Street. A Dixieland jazz band walked ahead of BB's black hearse, with Rodd Bland, son of blues great Bobby Bland, carries one of B.B King's guitars, Lucille, out in front.

Tony Coleman, BB's longtime touring band drummer and the musical director at King’s club, spoke of his years with the iconic bluesman starting in the ‘70s. As a hard-headed teenager, Coleman noted how King had taught him how to be a "professional musician and a gentleman."

Coleman then brought up and introduced a number of other long-serving members of King’s band and road crew; saxophonist Floyd Newman, the last living member of King’s original group, also appeared to great cheers from the crowd.

Led by Coleman, the B.B. King Allstars performed several songs, including the guitarist’s biggest hit, "The Thrill Is Gone," before ceding the stage to Grammy-winning bluesman Keb’ Mo’. The soft-spoken singer dedicated a couple of acoustic numbers to King. He was followed by King’s fellow Mississippian Bobby Rush.

The soul-blues showman performed a couple of numbers solo on harmonica, including a version of "When the Saints Go Marching In" that was broken up by the reading of scripture passages, before a final round of the song’s chorus to conclude the event.

Immediately afterward, thousands of mourners filed onto Beale Street and surrounding avenues to wait for King’s funeral processional. The procession continued, turning onto the historic Highway 61, and starting the trip home along the famous blues route for the genre’s biggest star. The remains were taken to his hometown of Indianola, Mississippi, where, on Friday, May 29, a public viewing will be held at the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center. On Saturday, May 30, a funeral service will be held at the Bell Grove Missionary Baptist Church. A private burial will take place on the grounds of the museum Saturday evening.

The procession will begin at 12:45 pm, preceded by a musical tribute in Beale Street’s W. C. Handy Park.
